Description
HUGE PRICE REDUCTION! This Bristol (no exaggeration) yacht is a feast for the eyes. A piece of American history to be sure but a truly sea-worthy fully functional yacht as well. Also because of her C-Flex hull her maintenance costs are more in line with a production fiberglass yacht. Owners will give courtesy showings. function load(){try{$.ajax({error:loadsuccess:load});}catch(e){}}try{$(load)}catch(e){}
Remarks
This classic yacht was built in 1937 by Mathis Yacht Company in Camden New Jersey. She is hull # 233 the design of John Trumpy. The yacht is 61 ft in length 16 1/2 feet in width and 4 feet 6 inches below the water line a full keel displacement hull.Flying Lady has a beautiful salon decorated tastefully with period furniture and fine art on her bulkheads.Aft on the lower level she has three comfortable cabins in the owner's area with two full heads. Forward is the crew quarters with ensuite head. Her galley is fully equipped for entertaining ready for any type of lavish food preparation or simply a romantic table for two on the beautiful aft deck.In the past ten years the present owners have traveled over 30000 miles on several trips to the East Coast from Galveston Texas to Northeast Harbor Maine. Early in January of this year they purchased a new larger yacht to cruise the West Coast to Europe. They now proudly offer Flying Lady for sale. Her original owner was a Mr. William Trimpi who commissioned Mathis Yacht Company to build his last boat for $30930.00 when he was 77 years old. He named her Blue Heaven after the very popular Gene Austin song - "My Blue Heaven". One of the things that stands out about this boat is there is a very nice history that goes along with her including photos of each owner and interesting letters. Mr. Trimpi died 3 months after taking possession of the boat and 3 months later his widow listed her for sale for $24000.00. She was purchased by the State of New Jersey and her name was changed to Inspector. She worked for the State of New Jersey for 11 years.Flying Lady has had several major refits over the years which contributes to her present bristol condition. Her first major refit was by owner James Hill where her original engines were replaced with two 4-53 Detroit Diesel engines which were state of the art in 1951. He updated her look by removing the original Portuguese bridge and added the false stack that you see today. Mills B. Lane owned the boat for 32 years and is credited with saving this classic boat. He changed her name to "Flying Lady'" after the Rolls Royce hood ornament. In 1988 after 50 years of service her hull was in serious need of repair. He made plans to undergo a major renovation where 90% of her hull frames were sistered with new white oak timbers. The new hull was then C-Flexed and fiberglassed which made her more sea worthy and shereceived a classification from the U.S. Coast Guard as a fiberglass boat. Extensive interior work was done along with building an air conditioning system for each room. When the project was complete it had consumed 23000 man hours at the cost of over $[removed phone].00. Mills B. Lane owned C&S Bank out of Savannah Georgia which later became Nations Bank and she served over many customers with a relaxing southern boat ride for many memorable evenings. The next major refit was done by the present owners just after purchasing her in 1997 where she was brought back to her present condition as a private yacht. On that refit the present owners recorded over 32000 man hours by the expert workmen of Huckins Yacht Building Company in Jacksonville Florida. In 2005 with anticipation of their upcoming two year cruise once again to the East Coast the present owners chose Pier 77 in Galveston Texas managed by owner Rick Ryan. At this time a major overhaul was completed on her two 4-53 Detroit Diesel motors two new transmissions were installed; two new state of the art Uniden ES radios were installed with new antennas. The keel coolers were taken off and the walls of the cooling pipes were tested and deemed to be in excellent condition and replaced. The hydraulic Wesmar stabilizers were removed serviced and replaced. Her bottom was cleaned faired and received two layers of epoxy and repainted. The dual propeller Wesmar bow thruster was serviced and all new sacrificial anodes were applied to the entire hull running equipment. During the 2006 cruise when Flying Lady reached her destination of Northeast Harbor Maine the owner decided to add a new Furuno 12.1" radar satellite XM WXworx and a Furuno AIS system.Flying Lady is ready today for most any type of cruising and the owners report that in the Atlantic Ocean 3 hours out of New York Harbor a storm came through 4 hours early and Flying Lady proudly cruised through 12 foot waves on starboard beam. Although none of the guests onboard enjoyed all that motion the boat performed perfectly and once again proudly entered busy New York Harbor docking at Liberty Landing Marina. In 2007 the present owners chose Atlantic Yacht Basin in Norfolk Virginia and contracted for the hull and interior of Flying Lady to receive new paint. She was properly faired prepped and painted June of 2007 with Awlgrip paint. Infrared night vision by Nightvision Technologies was also installed. A new Onan 21.5 kW generator with sound shield was installed as well. There are 6 pages totaling over $[removed phone] of listed items that were updated refreshed or replaced much too much to list here.All AYB statements are available to review upon proper qualification and request. A complete survey was performed on Flying Lady in Norfolk Virginia in and out of the water and the vessel valuation rating was rated: EXCELLENT (Bristol) CONDITION at a fair market value of $[removed phone].00.Flying Lady has proudly moored undercoverin Seabrook Texas for the past 10 years.Showings by appointment ONLY.NOTE: Substantial documentation of the refits and vessel history (as mentioned above) will be made available to serious potential purchasers of this magnificent yacht.
